Join the Home-Start Team

Home-Start Malta is currently looking for volunteers to join its existing team.

Home-Start offers parent-to-parent support to families who have at least one child under the age of 5 years, and coming from Cottonera, Kalkara, Zabbar, Zejtun and Fgura. Home-Start considers parents to be the key in creating a secure childhood for their children. Thus it offers them support and strength to be better parents for their children. Having difficulties like illness, multiple birth, post-natal depression, disability, isolation or lack of skills or means to provide good care for infants and children, aggravates the situation and the family may easily find itself facing more complex social difficulties or even a family breakdown. Home-Start is locally supported by Agenzija Appogg in collaboration with Home-Start International, and sponsored by HSBC Cares for Children Fund and Vodafone Malta Foundation.

Volunteers build a friendly and supportive relationship with the parents, showing their understanding towards the difficulties the family is going through. Once selected, through interviews, volunteers are trained on issues pertaining to child care as well as helping skills and sensitivity towards other people’s needs and feelings. Volunteers are constantly supported by the Home-Start Organiser.

Home-Start Malta needs volunteers

Who may apply: To become a Home-Start volunteer, the only pre-requisite is that of being a parent or having parenting experience such as a step-parent or carer for siblings. Volunteers come from all walks of life – from young parents who help other young parents, and parents whose children have just started school, to ‘empty-nesters’ and grandparents. Friendliness and a caring attitude is indispensable since this service is based on the relationship built between the family and the volunteer.
