Q: WHAT TYPE OF PREPARATION IS INVOLVED BEFORE ENTERING THE PROGRAMME?
A: The individual is encouraged and expected to meet his/her community worker and medical officer on a regular basis at the community services in order to settle any urgent issues that require attention before entering into the programme.

Q: WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME CONSIST OF?
A: This service consists of 24-hour, specialist care with the constant presence of a nurse, a care worker and a medical officer. Patients undergoing this detoxification programme benefit from a highly individualised treatment plan, which is devised on the basis of the patient's addiction, physical and psychological status, and the extent of the support thought to be available from significant others following detoxification.

Q: HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAMME?
A: The duration of a detoxification process is approximately 5 days.

A: The individual is encouraged and expected to meet his/her community worker on a regular basis at the community services even while receiving the detoxification service as an out-patient, in order to settle any issues that require attention.

Q: WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME CONSIST OF?
A: This service consists of providing basic medical and social interventions to individuals with a substance misuse problem. Preventive work is also carried out to reduce the possibility of further harm ensuing from substance misuse and associated risk behaviours. This includes the provision of harm reduction knowledge to patients, the Hepatitis B immunization project and blood screening, of which pre- and post-test counselling is an integral part.

A: The duration of a detoxification programme depends on the needs of each individual.
